Character Skills Snapshot
Everything you need to know about the Character Skills Snapshot (and why there's no reason to be SPOOKED!!)
The answer is yes, some independent schools (Riverdale, Friends, Loyola to name a few) are using the results to help determine admissions decisions, but it’s the first year that the Character Skills Snapshot (CSS) is part of admissions, so we’re giving you the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and WHY of it below.
WHO?
The SSATB (now rebranded as the Enrollment Management Association)
WHAT?
The Character Skills Snapshot. A 20-minute exercise meant to provide a “snapshot” of your child’s character along the following categories:
- Open-mindedness
- Self-control
- Team Work
- Resilience
- Responsibility
- Social Awareness
- Initiative
- Intellectual Curiosity
Each quality is either “Emerging,” “Developing,” or “Demonstrating.” Students look at statements and rate them according to how strongly the statement describes them, in that moment.
WHEN?
Between September 25 and December 10, 2017 for all registered SSAT students.
WHERE?
Anywhere with internet (no phones!), but we recommend doing this at home.
FOR HOW LONG?
Twenty minutes
WHEN ARE RESULTS IN?
December 15th
WHY?
High schools are looking for students who have grit, compassion, and the ability to work with others. The Enrollment Management Association is hoping to provide a meaningful measurement of these qualities through a short test.
SHOULD I PREPARE?
Give us a call, and let’s chat--the short answer is not really, but any time our students are sitting for an evaluation, we want them to feel prepared and confident.
