ACT Walks Back Roll Out of Section Retesting
Testing Updates from TA
As states start to reopen and rising seniors gear up for college applications in the fall, everyone is anxious about how and when they will test! Here’s our breakdown of where things stand right now:
ACT:
The ACT recently announced that they would postpone section retesting for 2020, a new opportunity that they were planning on rolling out this year. Students will not be able to retake individual ACT sections this fall or winter. They are planning to start section retesting in early 2021, pending the impacts of COVID-19.
June ACTs were administered in 45/50 states. July 18th tests are scheduled to happen in testing centers that can comply with CDC guidelines. Please refer to your local testing center for more information on this!
The ACT plans to offer an online testing option at testing centers in Fall of 2020, which will provide faster results for students.
SAT & Subject Tests:
SAT and SAT subject tests will be offered every month starting in August and ending in January.
On June 2nd, the College Board announced that it would not be pursuing at-home testing.
Registration for fall testing is now open, and students can find more information on the College Board's updates page.
What will the Colleges expect?
Many of the most competitive schools, such as Harvard and Columbia, have gone test optional for next year.
A few schools, such as Princeton, are still requiring tests at this point, but this could change.
Our Advice:
If you’re not able to get a test date in the fall, colleges will be generally flexible.
If you can send a good score, you absolutely should—it will only help your application.
