The New SAT is Coming: What Your Child Should Do, By Grade

You’ve probably heard the news: the SAT is going digital for international students this year, and in 2024 for U.S. students (PSAT coming fall ‘23!).

The new SAT will be digital & adaptive. Below are our recommendations on what students can do to prepare for the new SAT, based on their current grade level:

Take a break–you’re all done with college admissions testing–and keep us updated on plans for next year please!

If your child is currently in 11th…

The SAT is still its same-old paper/non-adaptive self through December 2023.
If the SAT is the best test for you, go for it!

If your child is currently in 10th…

Let’s chat. A few of our current 10th graders can get the SAT done this year, and should. Everyone else? You’re likely going to be preparing for the predictable, not-changing ACT so that you have consistent options for testing well into the fall of your senior year. Spring of 11th grade, the SAT is brand-new, and we want our kids mostly steering clear. 

We want our kids taking tests that we understand deeply and for which we have an abundance of reliable materials.

Spring of 2024 will be the time for your kid to choose between SAT and ACT, just as the SAT is changing. We are betting on heavy ACT testing for our current 9th graders who won’t want to be the newbies testing out a new SAT.
