Hurricane Sandy: Office Update

Dear Tutor Associates families,

We begin by saying that we hope you are all safe and dry. We know that some of you are without power, and may be for some time, so please let us know if we can do anything to help. Our office is also without power, so the best way to reach us as we get our phone systems back up and running is by email. We at least hope that our students who are preparing for the November 3rd SAT/SAT Subject Tests and for the November 10th SSAT now have some extra time to study vocabulary and do some practice during this time off. If we can send extra practice or customized assignments, please let us know.

The storm has cut off the power, internet, or accessibility of some of our tutors. While the Subway and everything else gets sorted out, we wanted you to know that if your tutor is not available, we have tutors in many neighborhoods for emergency subbing. We’re keeping track of each individual tutor’s status, so please let us know if you have reached out to a tutor and not heard back. Another option besides subbing is to make use of the online portal that we use to tutor our international and boarding school students. This online system allows tutors and students to share and write, scribble or draw on uploaded documents in real time, just as if the tutor is sitting right there. Many of our students are already familiar with our online system, and many others will want to use it at some point in the future while on vacation or otherwise unable to see their tutor in-person, so now is a great time to get started.

We do plan to hold mock tests this weekend and are working for contingency plans since our office may not be accessible. We will update all students who are signed up as soon as we have details.

Thank you so much for your patience as we try to navigate this tricky time.

All our best,

David and Sasha
